Rails Day Completion
I just woke up after crashing hard. Rails Day was a blast - we hit some snags at the end, some of which we overcame, some of which we did not, but I’m still really happy with what we accomplished, especially considering the fact that neither of us really knows what we’re doing in Rails yet.
It’s a surreal experience, coding for 24 hours like that, rarely leaving the computer, constantly thinking about what you’re doing. Everything about it feels like a blur right now. We coded so long - Ryan slept at one point, stopped for breakfast and a meal around 3:30 in the afternoon, and I stopped once when Katie and Ava came to visit and see how we were coming along. Other than that, there weren’t breaks for games or to walk around or anything, we just kept at it the whole time.
The next step for us is to clean up what we have, make sure it’s all working, and actually set up proper unit tests (we weren’t very good about those). A domain name is coming down, so we’ll get it all ready to go and release it to the public. Maybe we’ll have a little success with it, who knows? I think that I’ll keep using it, and I know of several people who’ve claimed that they’d do the same.
Rails is awesome. I can’t wait to do more with it. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt like this about programming.
