Programming Weekend

I wish I felt like I’d be ready for Rails Day on the 17th, but I’m just not sure. I’m thinking I’d like to participate any way, for the experience. I’ve had an application idea in my mind for a couple months now, but working on other apps has kept me from it. Am I ready in RoR yet? Probably not.

I spent the weekend with Brian in Eau Claire again, working on the Well Bundled Baby store and learning more Rails. I’d hit a snag in my development, asked Brian for advice online, and a few hours and a car ride later I was at his desk, hacking things out. I learned a lot, increased my sleep deprivation, and had a blast. I can’t believe how much fun workin in RoR has made programming.

Work today has me writing a screen scraper script in Ruby. It’s been a great way to learn plain Ruby, working with Net::HTTP, regular expressions, and ActiveRecord in a slightly different way. Learning Ruby has been great, learning Rails has been challenging, it’s all been worth it.
