SXSW Web Awards

Went to the SXSW Web Awards last night - had a crazy, fun time. Met some people at the beginning who were nominated in Student for their site How Do I Say This?, talked with them and they got us a seat in the front row. I sat next to Scoble, got called out by Ze when he was explaining that most of us weren’t going to win, and then went up to accept an award for Computerlove, who wasn’t there to accept. I didn’t keep the award, but I really wish I had - I could’ve gotten away with it.

The real excitement, though, came when David, Dagmar, and Loretta won for How Do I Say This? -  after talking with them about it and hearing what they’d been doing, I’d gotten really excited about the things they were trying, and so it was really cool to see them win. When I’m home, I’m definitely going to be spending some time going over all the nominated sites a bit more. There’s a lot of them that I want to know more about.

SXSW is unlike any place I’ve ever been - the geekiness flowing (laptops out in bars at 1am as people post their photos to Flickr and send emails), the ideas, the conversations, the motivation. And as I saw written so many times before I came here - going to panels is a blast and you can learn a lot, but meeting people at night has even more benefits beyond that.
