Let’s Learn About Microformats

Today’s been a learning day; I’ve been getting an hCard set up on the site, or at least trying to do so. I’m struggling with it a bit - Tails doesn’t recognize my hCards as being present, and when I use Operator my Address Book doesn’t want to import the contact, but Yahoo! has no problem with it. However, Yahoo! insists on setting my cell number to both home and cell listings, so I get the number in there twice.

I’m going to dig through a few other implimentations that are out there and see what I’m doing wrong; I love the idea of Microformats and I’m tossing an idea around in my head for a specification proposal that could fit in with some of what I’ve done at work plus encourage my company to adopt Microformats in some of our apps. I want to flesh out my idea a bit more before I post too much, but I’m thinking about something that would work with medical data like drugs and procedures. There’s a lot to study before I’ll be ready to submit much, but it should happen soon.

Update 1: Tails didn’t see my hCard because it was wrapped in a span, not a div. Making progress! Still not sure why Address Book can’t recognize the card.

Update 2: Operator is now being kind to exporting a contact - it was breaking because I had extra white space around the value for my email address. Once that was out, things were happy. Yahoo! still wants to apply my phone number twice; that’s my next concern.
