Yesterday afternoon as I was walking to the light rail I heard a tearing sound, then felt my bag start to drop. I grabbed it before it hit the ground, looked around, and realized that the buckle on the strap had broken. I wasn’t doing anything but walking, and pop! the buckled snapped and my laptop nearly crashed in to the ground.
This morning, as I walked to the light rail to head to work I crouched down to get my ticket from the machine, only to hear more ripping and once again feel my bag slip away. It made it to the ground this time, but there was no damage. Without warning the strap on my replacement bag had ripped completely apart as well. This time, though, it wasn’t a buckle breaking. The leather piece on the edge of the bag, which contains the eye let for attaching the strap, ripped straight across. There wasn’t a seam or a separate piece of leather, it just tore that piece straight apart.
I don’t have a heavy load in the bad - a MacBook Pro, a folder or two, and a book - so it’s not like I overloaded the bag. I’ve carried both of these bags for months with pretty much the same load and had no issues. Somehow they both reached their end time together. I’ll be fixing yesterday’s breakage soon, and fairly easily, but I’m not sure how much can be done for today’s rip. This is likely the end of this bag’s regular use.
